Well here are the first pictures of my bumper project...I'll try to get more up tonight or tomorrow, I'll be trying to get more done on it later this evening but it has been a slow process between work and college.
Here it is mounted up, all the pictures of the building process are actually on my friends camera.

well i got mono so i have had a lot of free time the last few days and got quite a bit done, here are the update pics, i still need to figure out just how i am going to incorporate a skid plate...im thinking of making it it's own removable piece to make it easier to get the bumper off when needed. here are some pics of the updates...

im not sure what the plan is yet, i was thinking about just leaving it open like it is and paint it all up black. i think it should make it flow with the truck a lot better once its blacked out, but if not id like to hear some suggestions...maybe someone out there is good with photoshop? lol
im going to try and get more done today, im going to incorporate a skid plate that i can unbolt separately to make removing the bumper easier.

Legality in your home state (Washington?) might be a problem . Found the following summary of the WA state vehicle code

" Bumpers: A motor vehicle must be equipped with a bumper on both the front and rear of the vehicle with the exception of motor vehicles where the original or predominant body configuration, provided by a recognized manufacturer, did not include such bumper or bumpers in the design of the vehicle. For the relevant model year, bumpers must accommodate recognized manufacturer impact absorption systems pursuant to applicable SAE Bumper Standards or equivalent standards.

Bumpers are optional equipment on vehicles defined as street rods and kit vehicles by the Washington state patrol vehicle inspectors.

Bumpers, unless specifically exempted above, must:

(a) Be at least four and one-half inches in vertical height.

(b) Be centered on the vehicle's centerline.

(c) Extend no less than the width of the respective wheel track distances.

(d) Be attached to the vehicle in a manner equivalent to the original manufacturer's installation.

(e) Be horizontal load bearing and attach to the vehicle frame to effectively transfer energy when impacted.

(f) Be mounted at a maximum height based on the original gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle, measured from a level surface to the highest point on the bottom of the bumper. For vehicles exempted from the bumper requirement for the reasons stated above, a maximum frame elevation measurement must be made to the bottom of the frame rail. Maximum heights are as follows:
Front Back
Passenger Vehicles
22 Inches 22 Inches
4,500 lbs. and under GVWR 24 Inches 26 Inches
4,501 lbs. to 7,500 lbs. GVWR 27 Inches 29 Inches
7,501 lbs. and over GVWR 28 Inches 30 Inches"

Good luck !

well i think that the bumper should be done soon then were doing up a rear one. Right now all the updates consist of cutting/grinding metal, and i picked up some diamond plate to use for the skidplate. anyway, heres a picture to prove i use it, and my new 4x'ing wheel setup :D

thanks guys! I am not a fan of chrome/polished aluminum but those wheels are growing on me more by the minute, I decided i'd try something a little different than my usual murdered look
I think the skidplate section of the bumper is really gonna set it off 8)

Well I finally got a few updated pics, this process is gettin longer and longer it seems like. I blame college lol
anyway, front is almost done now! skidplate is going on soon, i have the diamond plate waiting to be cut and welded in
Here is one of the downtubes for the skidplate, i had to notch them because of the radiator being dropped out for the body lift.
Image

Welding them into place
Image

And a pic of them both in place

and a pic from today, a little flexing

BFG KRAWLERS on an IFS rig???? first i've ever seen of that. lol... kinda like putting drag slicks on a ford focus!!! :P kidding dude, nice rig, and excellent tire choice for wheeling... for pavement, not so much. but if you can afford em, more power to ya. :)

annnnyway-

i noticed something and wanted to ask about it. in no way am i criticizing, but i'm curious- why did you opt for the 2 upper tubes?? its seems like it would be much cleaner and every bit as sturdy had you used the aft tube that wraps around to the wheel wells. Again, not criticizing, and your work looks good, but IMO that front, lighter colored tube just doesn't flow to me.

and yes, why in the world ARE you wheeling with 250lbs of BALD radial SSRs in your bed (one of which is not on a wheel) lol ?? :)

I really liked the look of the bfg, i was going to go with the Kumho MT but they were on a national back order so it didnt happen. Discount tire gave me a great deal though and they have a good warranty plan, the guy was claiming ill see at least 20k with these tires and they are primarily just for wheeling/winter. I'll put my 20's back on in spring and eventually get 35's mounted on them too.
as for the bumper I wanted a little more of full look on it. its the first one i have made and isn't perfect but its been a fun project, i might do a new one again one of these days
