How to: Permanently disable the passlock II system.

I assume no responsibility if you harm your vehicle with this mod. ( follow the directions, this includes stepping one! )

Vehicle Information:

2006 Chevrolet Colorado, Z71, Crew Cab

Tool Needed:

1. Wire Cutters/scissors
2. Electrical Tape
3. Key to the truck

Cost: $0.25

Pre How to warning

This will disable the factory ignition security! I recommend getting an aftermarket security system to help protect your truck in case of attempted theft.

What does this solve?

Any and all no-start issues directly related to the passlock II system.

Step One: Start the truck, leave it in the park, and run during this process.

Step Two: Locate the plug pictured below, The plug is under the dash near the steering column. Open your driver door and stick your head on the floor near the gas and brake pedal and look up, it will be the big white plug staring you in the face. If you need any more help let me know. You will notice that on the side closest to the front seats, the plug is pretty much split in two. We will be working with the right side of this plug. We are looking for a wire that is White with a BLUE stripe. It will be with other wires that are white/coloured stripe.

Step Three: Cut this wire in half, and electrical tape both ends.

Step four: Shut off the truck, You’re done!

Try restarting it, you will see the red security light on, but that can be removed with the LED mod how.
How-to: Custom Gauge Lighting (LEDs) w/video

This can also be done using this Bypass (this is what is done on my 2007 Cobalt ss/sc for the remote start/alarm).

Hey all, first post to this forum as I just bought a 2006 Canyon ext-cab base model with 45K miles on it.

My question: How likely is it that I will encounter Passlock problems? If it is almost certain to happen, I'm gonna cut the stupid white-with-the-blue-stripe wire and have done with it (bearing in mind I'll have to reconnect it if I change the battery later). If many of these trucks never have an issue, I'll leave it until it happens (knowing that Murphy's Law will probably dictate that I'll be in a crappy neighborhood after dark, or running late for work, or some such, when it does).

Anybody care to weigh in on the probability of Passlock screwing me?

U should turn the car on properly and cut the wire. If u cut the wire first it will not work. But when your battery dies the wire will need to be reconnected and done again.

As for failure... beats me. I have an '05 Z71 4x4 crew cab with 110k on the clock and the only problems I am having is the drivers window is jerky when I try to raise it and the blower doesn't work on 1-3. And as of this post, I haven't seen or heard of any problems with the passlock. So it's your call.

OK, so that's one "didn't happen" and one "happened to me, early on" ... Please keep replying if you have experience with this problem, but so far, the impression I'm getting is that it's quite possible I'll never have to deal with this. So, I plan to keep rolling as is until it screws up, then start the truck using the ten- or thirty-minute procedure and cut the dang wire. Thanks for the help so far!

I appear to be having an issue with the passlock on my 2005 Colorado I4. For the longest time, I didn't know why my truck wouldn't start. I cleaned my battery terminals, replaced my fuel filter, and added fuel cleaning agents but with no success. I've even taken the truck to a shop that had the truck for weeks but couldn't get the problem to occur. The problem likes to happen when I'm driving it in far off places or at the gas station.

Thankfully, I paid attention to the dash lights and noticed the security light flashing. I immediately came here to check and sure enough, the problem was experienced elsewhere. I would like to get it corrected the right way instead of just cutting the wire. If the repair costs too much, I'm going to cut that wire.

I had a compu star remote started put in the truck 2 years ago, I have a 2005 GMC Canyon Vortec 3500, and just recently the trucks passlock is acting up like every week! Leaving me stranded for the 5-10 min thing. posting.php?mode=reply&f=8&t=84432#

I know there was a bypass module put in when the remote start was installed at future shop not sure what the make is.

Do you guys know if my problem could be due to the bypass f#@n up or the key-ignition on the truck? Any help would be great, I will keep searching the forms as well.

I may have to get this fixed asap for work, I'm just not sure if i should take it to the dealer or future shop.

Cheers

In light of a recent How To for passlock problems I am reviving this thread and stating that my 04 I5 Z71 with 96K is acting up pass lock related and wondering if this is a wise fix to the problem as it is obviously cheaper and quicker fix. Also jeffnichols not to question your ability but are you sure you did the fix correctly? If so does anyone know why the problem would still occur if the wire was cut?

Your suggested fix worked!!!

I too was having starting problems, apparently due to the passlock. My truck which is a 2006 Colorado, 4cyl, 5 spd, would randomly not start. After waiting 10 minutes it finally would start. I started to search the internet and ran across this post. As I read over it, I kept thinking, "this is too simple, too easy. What is the catch? Does this guy know what he is talking about?" Well come to find out he does!! After much hand wringing, I snipped the wire. My truck has not failed to start since. Yes, your light does glow on the dashboard but hey, that is better than a several hundred dollar trip to the dealer.

One final thing. Where do you find the LED mod how to?

Noximus, thanks for your fix!!!

HI there,
same for me, apart that I live in Mexico and hard to trust garages here, even the dealership looks dodgy! The sales rep even told me, on-board computer don't get reprogrammed, you have to change it!!! WTF!! What the point of it being a 'computer'??
Got a 2004 Colorado LS 4x4 - not too sure of mileage.
Left for urgent trip abroad and left keys with a friend to keep it running but he didn't...
Anyways, had a new battery as other one died dry but car won't start now. Got the Passlock light on dashboard. Tried the 'start leave for 10' then off for 30 seconds' thing but no success.
Now, I had enough and dropped the car at dealership. Waiting for diagnostic.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Cheers

Hey thanks for pointing out which wire.

I just did this. Can confirm the truck will still start with the door sensor disconnected. I put on some quick connects on the cut wire so I could reconnect it.

So it is clear, you need to cut the blue/white striped wire on the small wire bundle on the driver side. It is right next to a green/white striped wire.

When it is cut, the car won't warn you when your keys are in the ignition when you open the door to get out... so add a spare set of keys to the OP's list of things. =)

Lets see if it fixes my trucks problem...
